What we ordered
We ordered the Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt (SKU 7704995532) through one of the agent routes the desk retests every six months. The catalog shows $47.01 against a $52.88 original price, listed as in stock, in sizes S–XL and three colourways: denim blue, a cream/apricot tone, and cream with a red heart. We took size L in the cream-with-red-heart option; the parcel reached the bench 12 days after we paid.
The first thing worth knowing is that the page title describes a shirt while the same listing carries short denim jackets under style codes 2266 and 2288 plus a badged oxford shirt under 2215. The category is filed under T-shirts, and the SEO copy talks about multicolour T-shirt ranges. Only one of those things can be what ships, and the feature list is the part that names actual garment types.
Bench measurements against the size chart
Every garment that lands here is measured flat with a tape and checked against the listing chart, and anything over 1 cm out gets flagged.
| Measurement (size L, flat) | Our bench |
|---|---|
| Chest, pit to pit | 55.0 cm |
| Shoulder, seam to seam | 47.5 cm |
| Sleeve, shoulder seam to cuff | 62.5 cm |
| Back length, collar seam to hem | 71.4 cm |
| Hem width | 56.5 cm |
| Shirt weight | 486.3 g |
The catch: the listing never publishes per-size numbers. Its only length information is a band of 50–65 cm for "regular length" garments, and our shirt sits 6.4 cm above the ceiling of that band. That is the one figure on the page precise enough to compare, and it misses by more than our 1 cm threshold. Everything else in the table has nothing to check against, which is the real problem for a $47.01 purchase you cannot return easily.
Denim weight and construction
At 486.3 g on the 0.1 g scale for a size L, the body fabric works out to roughly 285 g/m², or about 8.5 oz. That is honest mid-weight cotton denim: it hangs with a little structure over a tee but is not the stiff 12–14 oz cloth people picture when they hear "denim shirt." The placket carries five buttons, one per cuff and one at the collar stand, set on even stitch counts. Side seams and the hem are double-needle, the collar rolls without puckering, and the straight hem sits flat when you lay the shirt on the bench. The collar and cuffs are a single-layer denim, so the shirt reads more overshirt than jacket.
The heart motif
We measured the embroidery with digital calipers: 3.4 cm tall by 3.1 cm wide, sitting 9.2 cm below the collar seam on the wearer's left front panel and 6.8 cm in from the placket edge. Stitch density is high and the outline is clean, with no loose jump stitches or visible bobbin thread on the outside face.
Published authentication guidance for AMI heart-motif pieces names three details to inspect: the font weight and placement of the heart logo, neck-tag stitching and spacing, and wash-tag font consistency. Our sample passed the first two — the motif is proportional and the neck tag is evenly stitched — while the wash-tag symbols were unevenly spaced. We treat that as a flag to note, not a verdict: a bench inspection cannot certify authenticity, and the same guidance says replicas commonly fail exactly these checks.
One wash later
We washed the shirt once before scoring the fit, at 30 °C on a cold cycle with no optical brightener, then line dried it.
- Back length: 71.4 cm to 70.4 cm (−1.0 cm, 1.4%)
- Chest: 55.0 cm to 54.2 cm (−0.8 cm)
- Sleeve: 62.5 cm to 62.1 cm (−0.4 cm)
Under 1.5% across the board, with the hem and placket still flat afterwards. Treat the denim as pre-shrunk but not shrink-proof: if you are between sizes, the length, not the chest, is where the loss is felt. We washed the cream colourway; the denim blue is the one we would keep out of a mixed load for its first two washes.
Fit and sizing
This is a regular fit, not oversized and not slim. AMI's own fit guide says to take your usual size in AMI shirts, and notes some styles are unisex — men take their usual size, women size down one to two. A rep-community review of an AMI De Coeur tee reports a regular, true-to-size fit. None of that is buyer feedback on this listing, and we found no independent reports on this exact product.
One caution worth carrying over: a QC post on an AMI knit flagged a sleeve measurement that looked short on the chart (about 60 cm at XL). Our size L sleeve measures 62.5 cm, so the proportions here are not the same garment — but if you have long arms, ask your agent to measure the sleeve on the size you buy.
Our working rule: flat-measure a denim overshirt you already like at the chest and back length, send those two numbers to your agent, and ask for measured values on the exact size and style code you are paying for. Height-and-weight tables are the least reliable input for a boxy cut like this.
Where the score lands
The garment is the strong half of this purchase: mid-weight cotton denim, tidy stitching, a well-placed heart motif and very little movement in the wash. The weak half is the documentation — three style codes on one page, a T-shirt category on a denim shirt, no per-size chart and a length band the actual shirt overshoots by more than 6 cm. Confirm the style code and the measurements before you pay, and the $47.01 lands where it should.
