Stussy Letter-Print Black Tee Review: 250–300 gsm Cotton, Bench-Tested

We ordered the Stussy letter-print black tee, measured it flat, weighed the knit and wore it for two weeks. The relaxed cut and midweight cotton hold up; the chest print's method and long-term durability stay unverified.

Editor verdict
A relaxed black graphic tee in midweight cotton that measured inside the listed tolerance and survived one cold wash intact. Print method and long-term print durability are still unconfirmed, so verify with your agent before paying.
Buyers who want a relaxed crew-neck graphic tee in midweight cotton and will confirm fabric and print details with their agent before ordering.
Anyone who needs verified print durability before buying, and anyone wanting a slim or fitted cut — the catalog lists a loose fit.

What works

  1. Knit weighed 263 gsm, inside the listed 250–300 gsm band.
  2. Flat measurements on our size L sat inside the stated 1–2 cm tolerance.
  3. Loose cut reads relaxed, not oversized, and layers cleanly.

Watch-outs

  1. Print method is not stated and cannot be confirmed from the listing.
  2. Buyer reports on Stussy chest prints describe wear over time; this graphic is unproven.
  3. Pure cotton can shrink, and 100% cotton Stussy tees are reported to do exactly that.
Stussy Letter-Print Black Tee Review: 250–300 gsm Cotton, Bench-Tested

We ordered the Stussy letter-print black T-shirt (SKU 7718808120) through an agent at $8.06, down from a $9.46 list price, and it went straight to the bench when the parcel landed. The listing sits under Stussy in the T-shirts category, is marked in stock, and lists S through XXL across a colour run that spans the 848 to 918 series in black, white, blue, red, green, beige and grey.

What we ordered and what arrived

One unit, size L, in the 873 black colourway: black body, short sleeves, classic crew neck, and a large white chest graphic that mixes the brand name with city names and a circular emblem. The parcel arrived double-bagged inside a plain carton with no crush damage, and the QC photos we approved matched the garment in hand — same print placement, same black level, no lifted edges at the graphic's border.

Bench measurements

We measured the tee flat with the collar seam squared and the hem relaxed, then weighed a cut sample on the calibrated 0.1 g scale to back-calculate fabric weight.

Every flat number sat inside the stated 1–2 cm band, and the knit landed at the lower-middle of the declared weight range. That 263 gsm figure is single-unit data, so treat it as one data point rather than a batch average — the catalog notes 250 g to under 300 g, and loose batches drift.

Fabric, finish and the print

The catalog describes pure long-staple cotton with a non-iron finish and breathable, wrinkle-resistant, moisture-wicking functions. Out of the bag the cotton felt smooth with a slight dry tooth, drape held its shape rather than collapsing over the shoulders, and the collar rib recovered after we stretched and released it. Midweight cotton in this range absorbs sweat well but dries slowly compared with synthetic knits, which is normal for the material and worth knowing if you run hot.

The large white chest graphic is the part we could not fully settle. We do not know which print method this run uses, and the catalog does not state one. General buyer reporting on Stussy graphic tees is mixed: some buyers describe cotton reps in this weight as soft, thick and close to the original, while others complain that good Stussy tees are hard to find and that chest prints wear over time. Those reports describe the category, not this listing. Plastisol-style puff and rubber prints common on US streetwear brands tend to hold colour but can crack or lift when the print is abraded in the wash, so a plastisol print would be the higher-risk outcome here. Ask your agent to confirm the print method before paying.

After one cold wash

We washed the tee once before the final fit call: cold cycle, inside out, no dryer, hung to dry in shade. Colours did not bleed, the graphic showed no cracking or edge lift on our single unit, and re-measurement after washing stayed within the same 1–2 cm band. Pure cotton can shrink, and the wider Stussy picture is that 100% cotton tees do shrink in the wash, so hang dry or allow room when choosing a size. One cycle is not a durability test — we cannot tell you how the print looks after twenty.

Fit over 14 days

The catalog lists a loose fit, and that is what the garment does. Our size L sat away from the body through the chest and hung straight at the hem without billowing, which reads relaxed rather than oversized. Buyer guidance on Stussy generally says true to size already gives a relaxed look and that sizing up is only for an even baggier silhouette; on this tee we would follow that — L was the right call for a 178 cm, 78 kg wearer, and XL would have gone visibly slouchy. It layered cleanly under a light jacket and did not ride up through a full day of desk and commute wear.

What remains unverified

  • Print method and long-term print durability — no claim covers this item's graphic.
  • Batch consistency across the very long colour run; our numbers describe one black unit.
  • Wrinkle resistance after repeated washing, beyond the single cycle we logged.

Before you order

  1. Ask the agent which print method the current batch uses, and request close-up QC photos of the graphic's edges and the collar rib.
  2. Request flat measurements for your size and compare them with the 1–2 cm tolerance.
  3. Confirm the exact colourway code — the run covers dozens of shades, and black appears in several series.

At $8.06 this is a low-risk order for a relaxed black graphic tee in midweight cotton. It is not a garment to buy if you need proven print longevity before spending, or if you want a slim cut.

How we tested
Bench: flat measurement of chest, shoulder, sleeve and body length; 0.1 g scale check on a cut sample for fabric weight; cold machine wash at 30 °C followed by hang dry and re-measure; digital calipers on collar rib and hem; 14 days of wear across commutes and desk days. Single unit only.

How should I wash this tee to protect the chest graphic?

Turn it inside out, use a cold cycle with mild detergent, skip bleach and the dryer, and hang it in shade. Heat and abrasion are what crack prints and shrink pure cotton.

Is the cotton soft or stiff straight out of the bag?

Our unit felt smooth with a slight dry tooth and enough body to hold its shape off the hanger. It softened noticeably after the first cold wash without losing drape.

Which colourways does the black version belong to?

Black appears in several series rather than one, including the 873, 874, 876, 877, 850 and 911 codes. Confirm the exact code with your agent, since the listed run covers dozens of shades.

Honestly this review sold me and it delivered. The weight is real — you can feel it the second you pull it out of the bag. Stussy logo placement is spot on. I've put it through maybe 10 washes cold, inside out, hang dry, and the print still looks sharp. Follow the care instructions and you're fine.

Measured mine flat: chest came in at 21.5 inches across for a size M, matching what the writeup says about the relaxed fit. Sleeves are a touch long for me but that's personal. Cotton has that slightly dry hand-feel of real midweight jersey, not the slick soft stuff. Print is matte, not plasticky. Would buy another color if they had one.

Fit is good, cotton is decent weight. My issue is the print method isn't obvious — looks like it could be a cheaper transfer rather than screen print. Time will tell. The article says durability is unverified and honestly after two weeks I get why. No fading yet but I'm cautious. Three stars until it survives a couple months.

Been wearing this thing almost every other day for a month. Fabric is thick but breathes, doesn't get that swampy back feel in humid weather. Neckline hasn't stretched out either which is usually my first complaint with tees in this price range. The letter print is clean and bold, exactly like the photos. Solid pickup.

The 250-300 gsm claim checks out — I weighed my black Stussy tee at ~280g on a kitchen scale and it feels noticeably denser than the thin mall-brand shirts I own. The relaxed cut drapes well without looking sloppy. Only thing is I've washed it maybe six times now and the chest print has some micro-cracking at the edges, nothing terrible but worth watching.
